In just three years Reliance- Jio decimated all its arch-rivals, Airtel is in ICU, Vodafone is in ICCU, BSNL already pushed to coma stage, But who is badly affected – Consumers

Last month Jio announced, they will be charging 6 paise per minute for outgoing calls, overriding one of their promises of free outgoing calls, this week they announced a 40 % hike in its tariff. Surprisingly no consumer raised their voice, no one switched to other providers.

Is it because of loyalty with Jio,…..Nothing.

We have no other option and no place to go

The marketing strategy- Ring Fence your customers; create a stickiness where customers could not move out. This is how big players play.

My this week story is not about Jio, I want to convey a point through Jio, come till the end, let’s see how big players play their game

Let’s dive in.

The last few months what I see is a super hype discussion about Digital Marketing and Social Marketing, conferences as if that’s the only gateway to do business. Some digital masters even say that sales is dead. Oh Really!

Please don’t think I am against digital, don’t even think I don’t understand Digital marketing, My own case, Just in four months GreatWorks site(www.greatworks.biz ) started ranking in the first page for few keywords, I have to say a huge thanks to my digital partner Spidergems (www.spidergems.com ), they made this possible in a fraction of cost and time.

Having worked under the pioneers of digital marketers, I know the pros and cons of it. We never misguided our customers; we clearly know the limitations of it.

My worry is about the half- baked digital masters who propagate the future is digital-only, without understanding the business landscape, a very generic advised is passed, giving wrong hopes and setting false expectations to all the businesses.

Let’s clear the air, mainly for the B2B business; I have points to convey to Salespeople and Business owners

For Salespeople:
Salespeople are showing over-reliance on web leads, waiting for daily leads to come in like a daily dose of vitamins to start their day. With no control over a digital medium, we are waiting, salespeople spending too much time on the web leads, really an unjustifiable time.

It’s OK to handle the Leads your company provides, but if you believe you are true hunter, you want to grow on your hunting skills, dear Sales folks don’t wait for the web leads, go call your dream clients to bring them on board. That’s when you will be seen as a true hunter. You can earn your respect in your organization. Great sellers found their own way to get their clients; they don’t wait for things to happen.
Especially if you are in a B2B scenario, sales generated leads are far better quality than the web leads since you have more control and visibility.

For Business owners:
Now, what if Google does the Jio thing,

What if, Google says all the leads are going to cost?

What if Google says the first few pages are for paid ads only? Do we have a plan –B?

I am not creating a panic, that’s how big players behave, now go and check how many ads are in Google first page compared to the last three years.

If you are aiming consistent growth you need a powerful sales engine, digital marketing is one firing cylinder that’s it, nothing more than that, but it cannot be a whole engine to drive your organization sales. I want this one point to be conveyed to all the business leaders.
